Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy hires Murfreesboro pharmacy leader
06-Jun-2007: Greg Young, Pharm.D., nuclear pharmacist and pharmacy manager for Cardinal Health Nuclear Pharmacy and Murfreesboro resident, will join Lipscomb University's College of Pharmacy Leadership Council as associate dean for experiential learning, the university has announced.
The 10-person, inaugural College of Pharmacy Leadership Council will lead the university in developing the first pharmacy college in Middle Tennessee.
Dean Roger Davis, appointed in January, is joined by three administrators and six faculty members, including Young. The new pharmacy faculty represents the diversity of functions within the pharmacy profession, coming from positions in hospitals, community pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies and academic institutions.
Young is a former president of the Rutherford County Pharmacists Association, and has worked at Cardinal Health Nuclear Pharmacy in Nashville for six years. He previously served as the pharmacy manager for Marcrom's Pharmacy and Clinical Care Services in Manchester.
Young attended Middle Tennessee State University for his pre-pharmacy courses, and then received his doctorate in 1988 from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy.
In response to a growing need for highly qualified pharmacists throughout the nation, Lipscomb University announced in November that it would create the third pharmacy college in the state. The goal is to enroll 75 students in the first class in August 2008.
The College of Pharmacy is following the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) process to be considered for pre-candidate status by June 2008.
Lipscomb University delivers a complete liberal arts education characterized by an integration of Christian faith and practice with academic excellence, preparing each student spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically for life and eternity.
Since January 2006, Lipscomb has added seven graduate programs to its roster, established the College of Pharmacy in and created the only Institute for Conflict Management in the mid-South. In fall 2007, Lipscomb will introduce a new undergraduate major in Law, Justice and Society and four new concentrations in the communication department.
Students at Lipscomb University can earn a bachelor’s degree in 90 fields of study and several pre-professional programs. Lipscomb offers 22 fields of study at the master’s level, a doctoral degree in pharmacy as of fall 2008 and an accelerated adult degree program for those who wish to complete their undergraduate degrees in the evening.
